1/32 A6M2b Model 21 Zeke Zero Fighter
1/32 A6M2b Model 21 Zeke Zero Fighter by Tamiya. Ages 12+. This is a highly detailed 1/32 scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, a lightweight, carrier-based fighter aircraft employed by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service from 1940 to 1945. When the Zero was first introduced, it was the best carrier based fighter in the world and was universally feared and respected by Allied pilots. The Zero was fast and incredibly maneuverable, and in the hands of a capable pilot, it could out dogfight any fighter of the era. The Mitsubishi Zero's prowess as a dogfighter was best demonstrated by the legendary Japanese fighter ace Saburo Sakai on June 24, 1944 when his Zero managed to elude a squadron of 15 U.S. Navy F6F Hellcats and returned to base almost untouched. Thanks to the evolution of new tactics and techniques, Allied pilots were able to hold their own against the nimble Zero. With the introduction of more advanced F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair later in the war, Allies finally have fighter aircrafts that could outclass the Zero in a turning dogfight. This finely detailed 1/32 scale model kit features the A6M2b Type 0 Model 21 variant, which had folding wingtips for service onboard aircraft carriers. The A6M2 Model 21 became the most produced Zero variant. This kit comes with parts to build a super detailed scale replica of the Nakajima "Sakae" type 12 engine, folding wingtips, metal parts for the landing gear assembly, retractable landing gears, movable rudder and flaps, 1 standing and 1 seating pilot figure, and specially designed box to allow storage of the assembled aircraft model.
